Hey Joe:
I was happy to come across your website while checking out Jake's new website. I loved your video, mostly because I know all the people in it, but also because it brought back so many memories of those days on the farm. I have to say that the area we lived in is still one of my favorites. The memories abound of life on the farm in the olden days: putting away wagon after wagon of hay, riding the tractor with my dad and the rhythm of the baler making me so sleepy that he had to let me off to take a nap in the weeds at the edge of the field, looking for a stray milk cow who decided to have her calf up in the hills on the farthest corner of property that she possibly could, my brother being run over by a tractor while checking the piece of equipment behind it (luckily he was smushed down into the mud instead of being crushed on hard ground!), the smell of the early fall air as we filled up the silos. I was priveleged enough to be given one of your T-shirts when I visited Jim and Claire last month. I wear it proudly, as I truly do miss the farm. Take care Joe! Amy
Amy (Lundberg) Yamamoto has been a close friend to my older sister Claire since childhood, she was raised on a dairy farm, like myself, in Greenwich NY.
Thanks for the great email Amy! You sure brought back memories. The baler would make me sleepy too!
Joe

Marcus Henderson sent me this picture of his family's IH 1066. I remember watching this tractor at the Washington County fair, in Greenwich, NY, tractor pulls back in the early 1980's. The Hendersons would swap the 4x4 front end with a tricycle front end. This was always a very sharp tractor, and she would usually put a whoopin on those 4440's at the pulls! Thanks for the picture and the memories Marcus!!

Hi Joe, the knee is healing very slowly. Still not back to work yet. The 5488 is my favorite tractor on our farm It drives like a dream and we have had very little trouble with it. It didn't look like the picture when we got it. It was a mess it had been sitting in a rice paddy in louisiana. It was all rusty and the front wheels were rusted to the point where you couldn't steer it the rear end was out and the cab interior was a mess but the engine was in good condition. We had to have it towed out of the paddy and then the dealer we bought it from fixed the rear end and we had it hauled back to Indiana on a semi truck. My brother-in-law is diesel mechanic and he went through that tractor and repaired everything that needed fixing and then he repainted it. He did some adjustments to the injector pump and the last time we dyno-ed it was at 215 horsepower. Not bad for a tractor that is supposed to have 180 from the factory. We also have a 1066,Hydro 186 and 2 1466's and our biggest tractor is a 4366 four wheel drive. I have some more pix to show you. My brother in law has restored both of the 1466's to like new condition. Hope you enjoy the pix of our tractors from Indiana. Joe Ervin
What a fleet!!!! I'm so envious!!!!! I can't believe what that 5488 has been through and how good it looks now, what a great story!! I'd love to see a picture of that 14 with the duals on it! What would it take to get an invite out to your place next summer or fall? I'd make some pretty cheap labor for a weekend! Thanks so much for checking in from Indiana, and I hope your up and about real soon! Joe Davis ![]() ![]() ![]() |
